Dare to Believe
In which Sarah reveals a Secret, revisits a mural, and invites you to a ✨special event.
A couple of newsletters ago I mentioned a “Secret” art commission that I wasn’t at liberty to divulge. The originating agency for this artwork, Metro Art, requested I not go honking on about it until they were ready to start publicizing it.
Well, the time of honking has finally arrived. 🪿 In August I submitted an artwork proposal to a Metro Art selection committee for LA Metro Art’s “Through the Eyes of Artists” public art program. The submitted artworks focused on the Northridge/San Fernando Valley line of the LA Metro. So many accomplished LA artists participated in this call for artists I doubted I would be selected, but dared to believe I might.
Imagine my (extremely happy) surprise when I found out my art was selected for the commission!
Here are a couple versions of the artwork as it will appear in Valley Metro stations
From Metro Art’s webpage: “Sarah Stone’s tribute to Northridge captures all the unique charm of this vibrant community. From its bustling shopping districts to the scenic bike trails that weave through lush parks, this poster reflects the dynamic mix of urban energy and natural beauty that locals love. Imagine catching a show at one of the performing arts centers, then discovering an underground arts gallery filled with hidden gems.”
I will be signing them - Dec 8 on Sherman Way as part of the 57th Ciclavia - Valley
👉 Tuesday, December 8, 2024 9am- 3pm CicLAvia - on Sherman Way between Shoup and Lindley.

Watching:
We went last week to see Gladiator 2. It was really good. I’m a big fan of the first Gladiator, and Ridley Scott, so I was happy to not be disappointed, when sequels can be so disappointing. Violence, yes. Animal violence: CGI animals. Some of what happens is referential to Gladiator #1, so it might be fun, but not necessary, to rewatch #1 before seeing #2. Also, reading the actual fratricidal history of Geta and Caracalla is very interesting.
Listening:
Some of my BlueSky readers have been recommending playlists. Of these I am currently listening to:
Bat for Lashes new album, The Dream of Delphi
A very talented indie artist who goes by the name of Pilfered Pie
A local Topanga band, Bachelor, 2024 release Doomin’ Sun
Reading:
Shock Induction, 2024 Chuck Palahniuk
A Hundred Secret Senses, 1998 Amy Tan
Picks and Shovels, 2024 Cory Doctorow
I gotta run, thanks again for being here, and think about subscribing (it’s free!)
